keeping your word
Historically and culturally, blood pacts were used to represent the integrity of individuals and their agreement. However, we live in an era where we’re lied to constantly, words mean little and promises are often broken.
Blood Pen was my winning entry to Core77’s “Need” Design Competition. In an era of product glut, my response was that we needed more integrity and responsibility from people and sought a way a product might address that.
INTEGRITY. Blood Pen is meant for signing contracts of great importance. The process of purposefully injuring oneself to withdraw blood signifies one’s integrity and commitment to an agreement and reflects on the pain, difficulty and sacrifice one will inevitably face in keeping one’s word.
RESPONSIBILITY. The ideal use of the Blood Pen is to end a war. The signing by leaders signifies the end of the conflict and is the final blood that is shed.
IDENTITY. Blood contains your genetic code, it contains you. Signing is not just the representation of you, it is you.
